After 34 years as a soldier he serves a range of charities - most in education - as a trustee and mentor.
Serving and commanding in a variety of theatres, he also wrote on and taught military ethics (as the author of The Military Covenant, the British Army's moral doctrine), media relations (as the army's director of public relations), leadership and strategy (at the Royal College of Defence Studies).
